Kieran Sharkey is a Dublin-based Trombonist from Donegal. He is currently in his final year at TU Dublin Conservatory of Music studying BMus Performance in Trombone under the tutelage of Mr. Jonathan Clifford. He began taking trombone lessons with his local brass band in Glenties, Co. Donegal at the age of 12.
Growing up Kieran has taken part and been Principal trombone in many of the orchestral/ensemble courses in Ireland including SinFoNua, Ulster Youth Orchestra, Irish Youth Wind Ensemble, Esker Festival Orchestra.
In November he will also take part in the European Union Youth Wind Orchestra course to be held in Luxemburg.
He has also performed in many prominent venues in Ireland and Europe, including National Concert Hall, Dublin; Helix, Dublin; Ulster Hall, Belfast; Congress Hall, Schladming; Museums Quartier, Vienna and Slovak Radio Hall, Bratislava.
Recently Kieran has taken part in the RTE National Symphony Orchestra mentoring scheme performing in two Friday night season concerts, this year he has also performed with the RTE Concert Orchestra for RTE radio 1.
Solo and chamber engagements include a lunchtime recital in the Boyle Arts Festival, a solo piece with Dublin Concert Band in the National Concert Hall for their 60th anniversary concert. Kieran has also performed in recitals for TU Dublin Conservatory Piano department in the John Field Room, NCH.
In 2018 Kieran performed with TU Dublin Trombone Quartet as they won the Feis Ceoil Anchor Cup. Kieran has also performed in masterclasses for Kristian Steenstrup, and also at Dublin Brass Week for David Rejano, Jesper Busk Sørensen and Katy Jones.
